The Basics of Comic Drawing for Engaging Neurodivergent Learners

We warmly welcome you to join EIS and Dekko Comics for The Basics of Comic Drawing for Engaging Neurodivergent Learners. This short course will take place online over two evenings: Thursday 12th and Monday 16th December, 5.30pm-7pm.

The course will equip participants with tools and tips to make information-communication comics for use in the classroom. This course is relevant for teachers in early years, primary, and secondary settings, as well as FE lecturers.  Content is also relevant for Additional Support Needs focused teachers.

The course covers:

  • Introduction (getting over the fear of drawing and focussing on the breaking-down, visuals and fun element. Introducing the tools of comic-making: speech bubbles, panels, sound effects, colour-coding, extras, etc).

  • Visuals (teaching information through visuals as well as words).

  • Narrative (using storytelling to create structure, engagement and landmarks for the memory).

  • Layout (breaking information into panels, speech bubbles, tricks, colour).

  • Fun (using humour, creativity, gamifying, etc).

  • Relatability (using characters, pop-culture, relatable scenarios, etc).

Participants do not require any particular artistic skills or knowledge, or installed apps. Everyone is welcome to come along and learn.
