The EIS is asking members to contact their local SNP MSPs, calling on them to deliver the commitments they made in their 2021 manifesto.
In 2021 the SNP promised to recruit 3500 additional teachers and classroom assistants and stated they would reduce daily contact time by 90 minutes per week.
These commitments must be delivered so our teaching professionals can continue to provide a high-quality learning experience for Scotland’s children, and deliver the additional support required to help close the poverty-related attainment gap.
The reduction in daily class contact time will also go some way towards tackling the current workload challenges teachers are facing.
The Scottish Government recently reported at the SNCT that it had asked for an external review of factors relevant to the implementation of the manifesto commitment, the implication being that the reduction in weekly contact hours promise was at risk pending the outcome of this review that would be reporting back in March 2024.
It is therefore essential as many members as possible contact their MSPs calling on them to deliver the manifesto that they were elected on.
We have created an automated tool that will assist members to do so. See your inbox for the email titled "Call on the Scottish Government to Implement its Manifesto Pledge to Reduce Weekly Class Contact Hours" to access the tool and email your SNP MSP.
Thanks in anticipation of your support in encouraging the Scottish Government to stick to its manifesto promise relative to teacher workload reduction.
