Glasgow City Council Budget Cuts
|
EIS Glasgow Local Association is campaigning against cuts proposed that will see 450 teachers’ jobs lost over the next three years, starting with 172 jobs from August. Action began ahead of the Easter break with a large demonstration of teachers, support staff and parents outside the City Chambers on Tuesday 26th March.
The EIS is clear that these cuts are contrary to the Scottish Government’s commitment to increase teacher numbers and the decision must be reconsidered. A dispute has been lodged with the Council.

EIS-FELA members are participating in three weeks of rolling strike action as part of an industrial action programme to defend pay. This began on Tuesday 16th April and runs through to Friday 3rd of May. The college sector is part of the public sector, and the current pay offer has elements that are less than the Scottish Government’s public sector pay policy. FE college lecturers have not had a pay increase since August 2021.

Public Health Scotland Guidance
|
Public Health Scotland (PHS) has recently published health protection guidance for children and young people settings, including education.
This new guidance covers a broad range of health protection issues and replaces the COVID-19 specific education settings guidance produced and maintained by the Scottish Government during the pandemic.
On this basis, we would draw this to your attention.
Please note the EIS was not involved in the drafting of this advice.
