EIS Learning Reps continuously championed the well-being work being undertaken by colleagues during 2020, highlighting that the lack of time to reflect on practices saw many learning opportunities missed.
In response, the EIS, Scottish Union Learning and the Open University worked together to develop a course for those who lead well-being in their workplaces, which took place in March 2021.
The two twilight sessions focused on reflecting upon the past year, and planning for the times to come. In our current circumstances, this process could be a very negative one. However, OU lecturer Dr. Carolyn Cooke employed a process to assist positive and realistic reflection and planning: Appreciative Inquiry.
Appreciative Inquiry is about looking for the positives, the opportunities to build upon, switching from what needs to be fixed, it considers strengths, possibilities, and where successes can happen.
